MONUMENT II

1. The selection criteria used in the development of Monument 11 was resistance to Phytophthora root rot and Fusarium wilt and the presence of lateral roots together with the absence of crown and root rots.

2. This variety is adapted and intended for use in the north central United States. It has been tested in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

3. This variety is dormant, similar to FD4 check. Flower color in the syn2 is 85% purple, 15% variegated, with a trace of cream, white, and yellow.

4. This variety has high resistance to Fusarium wilt; resistance to meadow lesion nematode, bacterial wilt, Phytophthora root rot and pea aphid; low resistance to Verticillium. wilt and is susceptible to anthracnose (race 1). Reaction to Aphanomyces (race 1), stem nematode, spotted alfalfa aphid, blue alfalfa aphid and root knot nematode has not been determined.

5. Sufficient breeder seed was produced in 1994 and is being maintained by Green Genes, Inc. to last the projected life of the variety. One generafion each of breeders (syn2), foundation (syn3), and two generations on all certified (syn3 or 4) is recognized. Foundation seed production will be permitted in Nevada, Oregon, or Idaho with no restriction on the area of production of certified seed. Stands of foundation and certified seed fields are limited to three and six years respectively.

6. Certified seed will be available in 2000.

7. Application will not be made for Plant Variety Protection.
