WildCat is a double cut(medium) red clover.: It was derived by a strain cross between Scarlett and Concorde red clover. Both cultivar had been selected for plant vigor, powdery mildew, persistence and forage yield. Parent plants were interpollinated to produce Syn.1 as Breeder Seed. in 1994 at Clinton, WI.
WildCats plant height, flowering stems and length of stems are similar :to the cultivar 'Marathon'. WildCat has 62% of the leaves with a mark with 87% of the marks in the central location and 13% in the apical section of the leaf. Flower color is 58% medium pink, 23% light pink and 19% dark pink.
WildCat has resistance to powdery mildew, northern anthracnose and moderate resistance to Fusarium root rot. It has not been tested for the virus complex, Stemphylium leaf spot, Meloidogyne nematode complex, southern anthracnose, pea aphid, yellow clover aphid and Sitona.
One generation each is allowed for Breeder Seed(Syn.1), Foundation
Seed(Syn.2) and Registered Seed(Syn.3) and two generations for Certified
Seed(Syn.3or4). Foundation Seed was produced from Breeder Seed, Registered
Seed from Foundation Seed, and Certified Seed from either Foundation or
Registered Seed.
