IK8919

1. IK 8919 is a synthetic variety consisting of 104 parent plants. Approximately 69%of the parents originated from mass selection based on good agronomic characteristics of 2 to 8 year old hay fields in 1988 in the southern Sacramento Valley, CA. Seed was produced in 3 cages. About 31% of the plants resulted from seedlings screened and selected for Phytophthora root rot resistance in 1988 and planted in 1 cage. Seedlings of each cage were selected for anthracnose resistance (race 1) and produced breeder seed under cage in 1989. The parentage traces to Royal GT 58, Maricopa, Cargill 184, WL 318, Southern Special Meteor, Pike, and 167. The approximate percentages of germplasm sources are M. falcata 1
